Weekly Hobby Report - 2012/07/30

I didn't get much done this week until the weekend, but I was able to get the following done:
  • primed 2 deathrippers
  • primed defiler
  • primed ripjaw
  • primed 10 bane knights
  • primed 2 satyxis raider UAs
  • primed haqqislam starter pack
  • finished base coats for 10 bile thralls plus did first flesh wash
  • played game
While painting the biles on Sunday I entertained myself for the 6 hrs listening to the following standup comedies on netflix:
  • Jim Gaffigan - "Mr. Universe": Damn funny guy
  • Nick Swardson (side kick in grandma's boy) - "Seriously, who farted": meh
  • Patton Osbourne - "<can't remember>" - heard/seen some of this before, but it was good.
  • Kevin Smith - "Too fat for 40": I am a sucker for KS.  I really like smodcast, so this was right up my alley.
Played one 36pt game on Saturday which was quite slow due to some Friday evening festivities ;-)

I played the following list:
Scaverous (36 pts)
* deathripper
* deathripper
* skarlock
min bile thralls
greygore & co.  (full)
withershadow combine
machine wraith
warwitch siren
wrong eye & snap jaw

My opponent played:
Archdomina Makeda (FOR MAKEDA!!!! MAKEDA!!!!) (36 pts)
* cyclops brue
* archidon
* molik kharn
* titan gladiator
min paingiver beasthandlers
full swordsmen w/ UA

It was a long slobberknocker of a match with lots of things being killed.  Scaverous eventually won through attrition due to Greygore's sticking around thanks to 4+ tough rolls and tying up Kharn.  After Kharn took care of a bunch of Greygore's posse he was left out in the wind and Scavy was able to charge and take him out and camp at arm 26.  After that it was a prevent the rest of the game to score the scenario wins.  Also, excarnating to make more bile thralls helped wipe out his swordsmen twice (once before Makeda's feat and once after).

Not sure I would normally play this list again due to a lot of things ignoring or getting rid of tough being more seen now in tournaments, but I do have to say, I can see the merits of running greygore with someone who wants to camp.  I still may use a list like this but tweak it a bit.

This weeks goals are the following:

  • finish bile thralls
  • finish building wraith engine
  • paint another caster (venethrax likely)
  • help friend build his 15 pts cygnar army
  • play another 2-3 games with different cryx casters
  • get a demo game or 2 of infinity

Weekly Progress Report - 2012/07/22: Something done?

So, my hobby-work week was moderately productive.  I don't foresee tons more getting done this week.  However, I am glad of what I got done this week:
  • built & based 2 deathrippers (plastic, I like em I guess, even thought I have like 500 metal rippers in various states)
  • based defiler
  • based ripjaw
  • based bane knights
  • based necrotech
  • based 1 scrap thrall
  • and most importantly:
saxon painted, based w/ markers!  w00t!

I am not 100% happy with how it turned out.  I was trying to do 2 brush blending with him a lot and while I think in some instances it worked out, in others I am not satisfied.  However, I don't want to spend 200 hrs on one mini when I have a couple hundred plus points waiting to be painted.  Plus, I figure when I want to spend a lot of time on some figures with a technique I find really good and am happy with I can spend a lot of time on fewer miniatures in this game system:

Man are these models 'purdy.

Status Report - 2012/07/16

Was a semi-productive week although not much painting accomplished.  I was able to do the following:

  • built full 10 man unit of bane knights
  • primed 4 more bile thralls
  • primed full nyss hunters unit
  • primed full blackbane's unit
  • primed venethrax
  • primed nightmare
  • primed mounted and unmounted version of darragh
  • primed scavenger
  • finished more details on saxon orrick.  Just need to finish up his cape and paint and flock his base
  • started doing the base coats on 10 bile thralls skin.  Need 1 more coat and then it is clean-up time before I start the series of washes.
  • based haqqislam starter box
  • contacted a local infinity player to get a demo game setup at the end of the month/beginning of next
  • played a 42 pt game against a new 3Kreoss T4 tier list with my T4 morty list.  Ended up with a loss but it was a good game.  I would like to write a report on it, but I don't know if time will permit.  (lists are below)
Goals for this week:
  • base the bane knights
  • FINISH SAXON (he gets more and more mad with me not finishing him I think)
  • prime the knights and maybe the haqqislam
  • continue progression on bile thralls
I am still working out what I need to have completed before the November tournament weekend.  I figure if I keep going forward with getting some of the more used units painted, I will be in better shape by the time I finalize my lists.  Morty will definitely be in the stable for it, but I don't know yet if I need 4 casters or only 2 casters (first day is games with two 36 pt lists and the second day is two 42(50?) pt lists).

Here are the lists that were played in the Morty vs 3reoss game:

Morty T4:

deathjack
harrower
2 x slayers
2 x helldivers
stalker
2 x warwitch sirens
necrotech
4 scrap thralls (1 from necrotech)
reserves:
2 x scavengers

3reoss T4:

fire of salvation
crusader
min choir
2 x full vengers
2 x vassal of menoth
mechanic
high exemplar gravis
reserves:
full exemplar errants
knight exemplar seneschal

Machine Wraith WIP

Just wanted to share a few work in progress pictures of how I am magnetizing the machine wraith to his base and arms.  I am using the GW square infantry unit bases so that I can keep the guy in the same position all the time.  This has been a bear to get together properly and I am going to have to "warm up" and re-bend some of the tubes from the side pieces to fit into their main sockets.

After that I need to do some greenstuff edging, etc so that the pieces I am using the magnetize blend in with the base and scenery.  That will be a real trial and error process I am sure, but this has not really been fun getting him ready for priming.  I think once I get to the painting the real fun will begin (I have no illusions that he will be in a lot of my lists).

I will try to get some more up with the arms in place and any other step I remember to take pictures of.

Enjoy the WIP pics!
